The Author and Authority for Life
John 5:18–30 “The Author and Authority of Life”
Main Point: As the perfect image of the Father, Jesus commands life, death, salvation and judgment.
I. Jesus inherits all authority from the Father (vv. 18–23).

II. Jesus commands eternal life and eternal damnation (vv. 24–30).
Ezekiel 37:12–14; John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Nobody comes to the Father except through Me.” Revelation 20:10, “and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” Psalm 139:7–8, “7 Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? 8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!” Daniel 7:13–14, “I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him.14 And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.” Daniel 12:2, “And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.”
