John 6:1–15 “Lord of Abundant Provision”

Main Point: By revealing His deity, Christ provides abundantly in our hopelessness.

I. Jesus rejects a superficial following (vv. 1–4).

John 2:23–24, “23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. 24 But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people”

II. God’s presence reveals our deficiency (vv. 5–9).

John 20:31; Numbers 11:13–14, “Where am I to get meat to give to all this people? For they weep before me and say, ‘Give us meat, that we may eat.’ 14 I am not able to carry all this people alone; the burden is too heavy for me.” 2 Kings 4:2–6

III. Christ is our abundant and only hope (vv. 10–13).

Psalm 23:1–2, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2He makes me lie down in green pastures.” John 6:31–33, “Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” 32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” Jeremiah 31:14

IV. Jesus is not whatever you want Him to be; He is Lord and He saves those who humbly acknowledge it (vv. 14–15).

Deuteronomy 18:15, “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen”
