Taught by God
John 6:41–59 “Taught by God”
Main Point: To be saved, the Holy Spirit will draw you into fellowship with Christ in His death so that you can fellowship with Him in eternal life.
I. We are drawn to Christ as we are taught by God (vv. 41–51).
Exodus 16:2; Numbers 14:4; Isaiah 54:13, “All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.” Jeremiah 31:33, “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” Joel 2:28, “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. 29 Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit.” John 3:15, “that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life.”
II. Fellowship in Christ’s death leads to fellowship in eternal life (vv. 49–59).
Isaiah 53:10–12, “Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. 11 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.” Philippians 2:14, “14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing,” James 5:9, “9 Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door.”
