John 2:1–11 “The Groom Who Purifies”

Main Point: Jesus is the all-providing groom for His church.

I.                 Jesus is the groom who is obedient to the Father (vv. 1–5).

Mark. 5:7–8; John 8:28–29, “So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me. 29 And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.” Luke 11:27–28; Mark 3:32–35



II.              Jesus is the groom who purifies His church (vv. 6–8).

Amos 9:13–14, “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when the plowman shall overtake the reaper and the treader of grapes him who sows the seed; the mountains shall drip sweet wine, and all the hills shall flow with it.” 1 Corinthians 11:25, 1 John 1:7; Revelation 7:14, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” Matthew 5:17

 

 

III.          Jesus is the groom who provides for His church (vv. 9–11).

John 3:29–30; Psalm 37:16, “Better is the little that the righteous has than the abundance of many wicked.” Psalm 132:14–18; Ephesians 5:25–27; Revelation 19:7–8, “Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; 8 it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”
