John 3:1–10 “Transformed at Birth”

Main Point: Salvation is not an act that we perform, but a transformation that God performs in us.

I. Salvation involves a new birth from God (vv. 1–3).

John 1:4–5, “In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

II. Salvation involves a cleansing from God (vv. 4–5).

Ezekiel 36:24–27, “I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land. 25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. 26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.”

III. Salvation involves a new life in the Holy Spirit (vv. 6–10).

Ezekiel 37:7, “So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone.”
